My mind is a melange of exotic spices- noble and sweet paprika, boldly flavored and sassy cajun, aromatic scented dill weed, the pungent oregano- all which contrast in a frying pan with almost any type of poultry. I grew up on a plethora of spices, dishes from different cultures, and an empty stomach. I was born in San Jose, but spent a chunk of my time growing up in a harsh area in Los Angeles with my grandparents, uncle, aunt, and cousins. I grew up most of the time in the kitchen, as that was the biggest part of our town house. I would always watch my grandma cook everyday when I come home from school. Sometimes she would allow me to help her in preparation of the food. I always imagined myself as a head chef while doing this, like the ones on TV. My close friend at the time had parents owned a restaurant in which I love. He would take me there from time to time and his parents would feed me for free. We would always talk about opening our own restaurants one day and help feed those in need. Alas he was shot and killed, but I still have those visions in front of me today.
As of now, I am currently a senior at Santa Clara University studying finance. I cook whenever I have time for both friends and family, as I love cooking and sharing with the people I love the most. The best part about cooking a meal isn’t the food itself, but the company you spend it with and all the memories that goes with it. I hope to obtain a job shortly after graduating and save up money for culinary school.
Also, a few friends of mine and myself own a small ice cream business called ScoopZilla!
